English Conversation Practice – Discussing a New Business Idea

Characters:
Sophia – a graphic designer with an entrepreneurial spirit
Liam – her close friend and a software developer

Sophia: Liam, you’ve got a second?

Liam: Sure, what’s up?

Sophia: I’ve been thinking… what if we started our own business?

Liam: Whoa, that’s big! What kind of business are you thinking?

Sophia: Something creative. I was imagining a digital product store — selling customizable templates, social media kits, maybe even UI elements.

Liam: That actually sounds pretty cool. You design, I code — we’d make a great team.

Sophia: Exactly! I’ve seen so many people buying digital downloads online, especially small businesses. There’s definitely a market.

Liam: Yeah, and it’s scalable. Once you create a product, it can sell over and over again.

Sophia: Right? And with your dev skills, we could even build our own platform instead of relying on Etsy or Gumroad.

Liam: True, but starting on a marketplace might be faster in the beginning — test the waters, build a following.

Sophia: Good point. I guess I got a bit carried away dreaming about the full-blown site already.

Liam: Dreaming big is good! But maybe we start small and build up. Do you have any product ideas ready?

Sophia: A few. Like, a clean Instagram template pack for wellness brands, a Canva-ready pitch deck, and a Notion template for daily productivity.

Liam: Love it. Super niche but useful. You could even bundle them for different audiences — students, entrepreneurs, creators.

Sophia: That’s the plan! Oh, and we could offer some freebies to grow our email list.

Liam: That’s smart. People love free stuff, especially when it’s beautifully designed.

Sophia: So, would you be interested in building a simple landing page for now?

Liam: Totally. I can whip something up this weekend. We’ll just need branding and copy.

Sophia: I’ll handle that. Also thinking of a name — something short, creative, and memorable.

Liam: How about “Pixel & Flow”? Sounds like design meets functionality.

Sophia: Ooh! That’s actually really nice. I like how it sounds modern and professional.

Liam: Cool. Let’s brainstorm a few more just in case, but that’s a solid start.

Sophia: Okay, so this weekend: I’ll work on branding and product mockups, and you’ll build the site?

Liam: Yep! And next week, we can set up a social media account to start building a little buzz.

Sophia: I’m so excited, Liam. I’ve wanted to do something like this for so long.

Liam: Me too. And working with you makes it even better — we get each other’s strengths.

Sophia: Let’s make it happen. Pixel & Flow, here we come!
