English Conversation Practice – Making Travel Plans

Characters:

  • Alex – loves traveling and planning trips in detail.
  • Jamie – spontaneous and prefers a relaxed approach to travel.

[Scene: A cozy café on a Saturday afternoon]

Alex: Hey Jamie, have you thought more about where we should go for our summer trip?

Jamie: Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it all week. I still really like the idea of going to Greece. The beaches, the history, the food—sounds perfect.

Alex: Greece is a solid option. I actually started looking into it. Santorini and Athens both seem amazing, but very different experiences. Do you want more of a relaxing beach vibe, or are you in the mood to explore?

Jamie: Hmm, can I say both? I’d love to relax, but I also don’t want to miss out on the culture and the ruins and stuff.

Alex: Totally fair. Maybe we could do a split itinerary—like four days in Santorini and three in Athens?

Jamie: That sounds perfect. Have you checked out flights or places to stay?

Alex: I did a little digging. Flights are cheaper if we fly mid-week, like Tuesday or Wednesday. And I found a few really nice Airbnbs—one even has a private hot tub with a sea view.

Jamie: Oof, that sounds dreamy. How expensive are we talking?

Alex: About $130 per night, but if we split it, it’s actually pretty reasonable. Especially compared to hotels.

Jamie: Yeah, that’s not bad at all. What about stuff to do while we’re there?

Alex: In Santorini, we can do the sunset boat tour, visit the black sand beach, and maybe go wine tasting. In Athens, I was thinking the Acropolis, the Plaka neighborhood, and some local markets.

Jamie: You really are the planner between us, aren’t you?

Alex: Guilty! I love researching trips—it’s half the fun for me. But hey, you’re the one with the good instincts. You usually spot the cool hidden places.

Jamie: That’s true. I do have a nose for awesome street food.

Alex: Speaking of food, we should definitely try souvlaki and baklava while we’re there.

Jamie: And Greek coffee! I’ve heard it’s really strong.

Alex: Yep, it is. And you’ll need it if we’re waking up early to beat the tourist crowds.

Jamie: Ugh, mornings on vacation? I’ll need a lot more than coffee.

Alex: Okay, okay—maybe we’ll compromise. One early day, one lazy day?

Jamie: Deal. So, should we book this weekend?

Alex: Let’s do it. I’ll send you the Airbnb links I found, and we can decide together.

Jamie: Awesome. This is going to be the best trip ever.

Alex: I agree. Just imagine the sunsets in Santorini.

Jamie: I’m already picturing them—and posting them on Instagram.

Alex: Priorities, right?

Jamie: Always.
